The French government plans to deploy 40,000 law enforcement officers in the fight against riots that have been raging in the country for two days over the death of a 17-year-old boy. AP reports.
Protesters torched cars and public buildings in the Paris suburbs, with unrest spreading beyond the capital.
“The instigators of the riot must go back home. There will be more police and gendarmes tonight,” said French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin.
The minister added that 170 officers were injured in the riots.
The prosecutor’s office said it is seeking custody of the detained police officer.
Recall that on the night of June 28, protests broke out in France due to the police killing of a 17-year-old boy in a suburb of Paris. President Emmanuel Macron said he was also shocked by the tragedy, which “shocked the whole country,” but ordered law enforcement to prepare for larger disturbances.
And this winter, France was gripped by mass protests against pension reform.
