She stated this on June 28 at a press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
I am sure that the only effective security guarantee for Ukraine is NATO membership. However, I don’t want to anticipate the surprise that will be revealed at the Vilnius summit, Kallas said.
For his part, Stoltenberg expressed confidence that the leaders gathered at the meeting “will come to a common decision” regarding Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
To start any discussion about joining NATO, Ukraine first needs to defeat the Russian Federation, said NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg.
The most urgent task now is to ensure that Ukraine wins as a sovereign state. The main focus should be in ensuring the victory of Ukraine. And this is a precondition for any meaningful discussion about Ukraine’s membership,” he said at a press conference in Brussels.
Today, Polish President Andrzej Duda and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda discussed in Kyiv with President Volodymyr Zelensky the agenda of the July NATO summit in Vilnius and Ukraine’s accession to the North Atlantic Alliance.
Ukraine expects at the July summit to receive an invitation to join the Alliance under a simplified procedure.
