After the verdict was announced, Gennady German was pelted with raw eggs, according to Obshchestvennoe.
At the beginning of March 2022, he gave the Russian occupiers information of a military and operational nature regarding the current situation in Nikolaev and the region.
The Office of the Attorney General explained that the prosecution asked for the maximum possible sentence – life imprisonment. The court, taking into account the arguments and positions of both parties, sentenced him to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
In court, prosecutors proved that in early March 2022, the former head of the district prosecutor’s office, on his own initiative, assisted the aggressor state in waging war against Ukraine.
He provided the representatives of Russia with information of a military and operational nature at his disposal regarding the current situation in Nikolaev and the region.
German was detained on April 4, 2022, and on April 6 he was sent to a pre-trial detention center. According to investigators, the man handed over to the Russians data on the positions of Ukrainian soldiers in the Nikolaev region, personal data of military personnel and employees of the State Emergency Service, passwords for passing checkpoints, the results of shelling and the general operational situation in the region, corrected the fire on civilian and military facilities and informed the occupiers about Russian prisoners of war detained in Nikolayevshchina.
The court session was attended by the parents of those killed in the barracks in Nikolaev in March 2022. People associate the death of their relatives with the probable state betrayal of the exprocurator.
On January 23, during the meeting, the prosecutor stated that the defendant had passed information to a blogger from Russia, Yury Podoliak, a native of the Sumy region, who moved to Russia in 2014. He is suspected of supporting and collaborating with the aggressor state, the prosecutor explained.
