And then we have seen, of course, the courage of the Ukrainian people.This, together with the unparalleled military support of NATO allies and partners, has enabled them to resist the Russian aggression.And to admire the whole world on what the Ukrainians have been able to achieve. We must be prepared for a long journey. This war can last a long time, how long “No one can say, but we must be prepared for a long time. And so I call on allies to provide support, but be prepared to do so in the long run and be supplied. Because it’s more and more a war of attrition, “Stoltenberg said.
According to him, the war in Ukraine was Putin’s big strategic mistake. Because everyone is pointing to preparations for the rapid achievement of Moscow’s military goals, but the war dragged on for months and its end has yet to be seen.
Stoltenberg also noted that since 2014, countries like Canada, Great Britain, United States, Turkey have trained thousands of Ukrainian military and provided weapons that are now needed on the battlefield. He named NATO’s two main tasks: supporting Ukraine and preventing proliferation.
It will be recalled that former European diplomat Josep Borrell also admitted that Russia’s war against Ukraine could last. He said the EU should continue to provide weapons to Ukraine and put pressure on the economy of the aggressor country.
