This air command post is an important element of the structure of the unified information field at the level of the front or grouping of troops. There are a limited number of such control and relay aircraft in service with the Russian Space Forces, Censor.NET reports.
There are no more than ten such aircraft in Russia, Air Force spokesman Yuri Ignat said.
In addition, two combat helicopters (one of the Mi type and one Ka-52), one Mi-8 military transport helicopter and another Mi-8 electronic warfare helicopter, which performs the function of creating obstacles, were destroyed.
The latter, according to him, is very valuable for the Russian army, and there are “not many” such helicopters in Russia.
Regarding the Il-22, Ignat noted that this aircraft had already been hit by Ukrainian anti-aircraft missiles, but then the Armed Forces of Ukraine only damaged it – it was “a little torn apart”, but returned to the Russian base, where it was probably restored.
He noted that the Il-22 works together with the A-50 aircraft. The partisans in Belarus tried to blow it up with the help of a drone.
