The German foreign minister expressed his confidence that each country must decide for itself whether it wants to allow the kind of actions Russia is taking to become the norm.
Before her visit to the Republic of South Africa, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock called on the citizens of this country to understand the position of Ukraine, which is defending itself from Russian aggression, DW reports.
So, in a guest commentary published by the Sunday Times newspaper in Pretoria on Sunday, June 25, Annalena Burbock called South Africa’s voice important in the international arena and remembered the former president of this country and Nobel Peace laureate Prize Nelson Mandela, as well as human rights activist Desmond Tutu.
“If the country of Mandela and Desmond Tutu is against injustice, the world listens,” he stressed.
According to Burbock, he understands that South Africans living nine thousand kilometers away do not want to interfere and understand the Russian military conflict against Ukraine.
“But I want to encourage everyone to ask themselves the question: what kind of reaction would I expect from the international community if this war broke out in my neighborhood?” – wrote the head of the German Foreign Ministry.
He expressed his belief that each country must decide for itself whether it wants to allow the kind of actions Russia is taking to become the norm.
“I don’t think it can be in any country’s favor,” Burbock concluded.
Recall that the legislative bodies of the Republic of South Africa and the United Arab Emirates said they were ready to “negotiate” between the parliaments of Ukraine and Russia “to find possible ways to end the war.”
Earlier, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who headed a delegation of African leaders to Russia, said both the Ukrainian and Russian sides would consider the delegation’s “peaceful” proposals.
