Actors associated with Russia have already tried to disrupt the networks of Canadian structures working in the oil and gas sector.
Canada believes the threat of Russian-organized hacker attacks on the country’s energy industry is becoming more serious. On Wednesday, June 21, the Communications Security Establishment (CSE) radio intelligence service warned about this.
As CSE experts noted, hackers from the Russian Federation may try to interfere in the work of Canada’s oil and gas sector, as the country is an important ally of Ukraine.
“Hackers acting in favor of the Russian Federation are becoming more numerous and active in finding vulnerabilities in energy sector control systems,” CSE said.
They added that attacking such facilities threatens national security, as most critical infrastructure facilities depend on oil and gas products.
The CSE noted that hacker groups associated with Russia have attempted to hack into the networks of Canadian structures. working in the oil and gas sector, and that their goal is “to disrupt critical services for psychological pressure on society to eventually undermine support for Ukraine from Canada.”
Recall that Russian hackers attacked the website of Prague City Hall.
Also earlier, the largest German manufacturer of military equipment and ammunition, the Rheinmetall concern, received a cyber attack.
