Official Beijing said that US President Joe Biden committed a “public political provocation” by calling Chinese leader Xi Jinping a “dictator.”

This was stated by the speaker of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mao Ning at a briefing in Beijing on June 21, Bloomberg writes.
Mao Ning called the US President’s comments “irresponsible”.
This is contrary to the basic facts and diplomatic protocols, seriously violates the political dignity of China and a public political provocation, said the spokesman for the foreign ministry of the Celestial Empire.
Biden said at a charity event in California yesterday that the Chinese leader was stunned by a spy balloon that flew over the US earlier this year and said he “didn’t know he was there.”
This is the biggest embarrassment for dictators – when they do not know what happened, Biden said.
The US president’s comments and China’s response demonstrate how fragile the ties between the world’s greatest economies remain. Washington and Beijing have fundamental differences in technology, trade, human rights and Taiwan. At the same time, Biden’s statement about dictator Xi Jinping came against the backdrop of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken’s visit to Beijing on June 18-19.
Recall that Blinken held talks with Foreign Minister Qin Gang, which the State Department called “meaningful and constructive.” The US Foreign Minister also met with Xi Jinping. The talks were the first meeting of this level between the US and China since 2018.
