The money from the European Investment Bank will be used to prepare, evaluate, finance and implement recovery projects in the four areas.
The Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development and the European Investment Bank (EIB) signed a memorandum on the allocation of 840 million euros for the implementation of priority infrastructure rehabilitation projects in Ukraine in 2023. The Ministry announced this on Wednesday, June 21.
It is known that the money will be directed to the preparation, evaluation, financing and implementation of restoration projects regarding:
-
municipal infrastructure;
-
public buildings, taking into account energy efficiency;
-
water supply and drainage infrastructure;
-
transport networks and public transport.
In addition, the memorandum provides for: cooperation between Ukraine and the EIB in the use of a special trust fund from the EIB EU for the Fund of Ukraine; lending to projects in Ukraine supported by guarantees from the European Fund for Sustainable Development Plus (EFSD+); implementation and application of a package of technical assistance and consultancy in the amount of approximately 100 million euros.
The EIB will also finance the development of digital transformation and the strengthening of cybersecurity.
It is known that the European Investment Bank is one of the largest creditors of Ukraine. To date, the portfolio of projects implemented by the EIB with the Ukrainian public, utilities and business sectors is more than 7 billion euros. And since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the European Investment Bank has allocated 1.7 billion euros of emergency aid to Ukraine.
Earlier it became known that the European Investment Bank will give Ukraine 100 million euros of loans for restoration, for example, for the repair of municipal or energy infrastructure.
It was also reported that the EIB needs a guarantee to increase support for Ukraine.
