Kuleba spoke with the NATO Secretary General

The head of the Foreign Ministry emphasized the importance of taking a step towards Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance on the eve of the summit in Vilnius.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba spoke on the phone with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. This was announced by the head of the Foreign Ministry in Twitter on Friday, June 16th.

“I spoke with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and I thanked him for his efforts to ensure that the Vilnius summit was a success for NATO and Ukraine. I also noted the importance of taking a step towards membership of Ukraine, especially by abandoning the MAP. It is time to agree to a NATO decision in accordance with the new reality,” Kuleba wrote.

Recall that the Secretary General of NATO previously said that Ukraine’s accession to NATO will not take place while the war continues, but that the path to future membership is open.

NATO members intend to offer Ukraine an updated format of relations to show support for its application for membership, but there is no talk of concrete steps for entering the Ukraine in the alliance in the near future.
