It turned out that there are currently 11 defenders of Ukraine on Hungarian territory, who were held by the Russian Federation as prisoners of war. We also managed to find out the names of the defenders and the route of their movement to Hungary. This was reported to relatives and law enforcement officers. The Ukrainian commissioner for missing persons, Oleg Kotenko, reported this on Telegram.
It should be noted that until that time, there was no information at all about seven out of 11 of our citizens whose place of detention was established, he noted.
The Commissioner stressed that until the return of the prisoners to the territory of Ukraine, they continue to remain in the Unified Register of Missing Persons under Special Circumstances.
Recall that on June 8, the Russian Orthodox Church announced that it had handed over to Hungary a group of Ukrainian prisoners of war from Transcarpathia. The transfer took place allegedly at the request of the Hungarian side.
The Foreign Ministry said that the Ukrainian government was not informed about the relevant negotiations between the Hungarian and Russian sides, and Ukraine learned about the transfer of 11 prisoners of war from the statements of the Deputy Prime Minister of Hungary.
