A jury indicted the 21-year-old military man on six counts. He was accused of knowingly sharing information on social media with other users.
US Air Force National Guard soldier Jack Teixeira, a defendant in the Pentagon data breach case, has been formally charged with illegally storing and disseminating classified information. This was announced on Thursday, June 15, by the US Department of Justice.
A US Air National Guard (USANG) soldier stationed in Massachusetts has been indicted by a Boston grand jury for possessing and transmitting classified national defense information on a social media platform.
He was known to have been doing this since 2022 until his arrest in April this year.
The Ministry of Justice clarified that 21-year-old Jack Teixeira was charged with six counts.
“Teixeira is accused of knowingly sharing information on social networks with other users who did not have the right to receive it. In doing so, he violated US laws and endangered our national security,” said the US Attorney General Merrick Garland about it.
In the United States, each charge of unauthorized storage and transmission of national defense information is punishable by up to 10 years in prison, up to 3 years probation, and a fine of up to $250,000.
A federal judge will reach a verdict after considering the US judgment allowance and other legislative factors.
It will be recalled that Teixeira was detained in April after alleged secret documents about the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces with a detailed description of the plans of the United States and NATO, as well as other secret materials, appeared on Twitter and Telegram.
