New Zealand’s public radio station RNZ will conduct an independent review following the discovery of Russian narratives in materials about the war in Ukraine.
New Zealand radio station RNZ (Radio New Zealand) will conduct an independent review after discovering some material with Russian propaganda narratives on its website. It was reported on June 13 by the press service of the media.
It was noted that at the end of last week, Russian propaganda theses about the war against Ukraine were found in a number of publications on the RNZ website. One of the journalists appeared to have altered the original reports, adding pro-Russian narratives and disinformation.
Since June 9, hundreds of RNZ articles have been reviewed and 19 corrected (18 based on Reuters and one BBC). In the news, with changes, it is, in particular, about the “persecution of Russian speakers in Ukraine” and the “coup of neo-Nazis.”
All corrected articles were written by a journalist, after exposure, he was suspended from work and denied access to editorial systems.
RNZ stressed that a management meeting will be held on Tuesday to discuss who will be tasked with conducting the investigation.
Jim Meter, chairman of the radio station’s board of directors, said the incident undermined public confidence and that “good, thorough work needs to be done to right the wrongs.”
“We will appoint a group of trusted individuals, experienced journalists with editorial experience to conduct the review,” he said.
Meter emphasized that RNZ has high journalistic standards and values the trust of listeners.
It was previously reported that the Russian Federation has allocated almost a billion dollars for military propaganda.
