The fund will be used to help those affected by the fighting in the communities, those forced to move.
The UK government intends to provide Ukraine with £16 million ($20 million) in humanitarian aid. In particular, it will be used to support the victims of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station in the Kherson region. This was announced on Saturday, June 10, by the press service of the British government.
It is planned that the money will be given to public organizations dealing with Ukrainians affected by the war.
“The funds will help address the effects of flooding, such as water-borne infectious diseases, and risks from landmines,” the British government explained.
It is known that the money will be spent on first responder equipment, housing and basic needs.
It also plans to financially support displaced people affected by the conflict.
Specifically, the money will be distributed:
-
Ten million pounds will be sent to support the Red Cross Movement;
-
£5 million will be given to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs;
-
One million pounds sterling will be allocated to the International Organization for Migration.
It will be remembered that in recent days, President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized international organizations for their slow response to the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. In particular, he said that there is no Red Cross in the Kherson region.
After such statements of the head of state, the Ukrainian Red Cross reacted.
