Earlier, the Russian Orthodox Church said that on June 8 it handed over to Hungary a group of Ukrainian prisoners of war from Transcarpathia. The transfer took place allegedly at the request of the Hungarian side.
The Hungarian vice prime minister says it was “a gesture from the Russian Orthodox Church towards Hungary” but did not elaborate. The Ukrainian side did not know about this and was not involved in the process in any way.
In a commentary to Babel, the representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Andrey Yusov, said that the issue of prisoners of war is dealt with exclusively by the Coordination Headquarters, with which neither the Russian Orthodox Church nor Hungary have contacted. Currently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Main Intelligence Directorate are establishing all the circumstances, finding out the names of the dismissed and working on their return.
