The Ukrainian government was not informed about the relevant negotiations between the Hungarian and Russian sides, and Ukraine learned about the transfer of 11 prisoners of war from the statements of the Deputy Prime Minister of Hungary. The press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Nikolenko reported this on Facebook.
On Friday, June 9, Hungary’s Charge d’Affaires was invited to the Foreign Ministry for a substantive discussion. Kyiv turned to Budapest for detailed information about the citizens and permission for the consul to access them.
During the meeting, they especially emphasized the need to coordinate interaction on such sensitive issues as the release of prisoners of war, Nikolenko emphasized and added that the release of Ukrainian prisoners of war is always good news.
Recall that on June 8, the Russian Orthodox Church announced that it had handed over to Hungary a group of Ukrainian prisoners of war from Transcarpathia. The transfer took place allegedly at the request of the Hungarian side.
And today, Deputy Prime Minister of Hungary Zsolt Shemien confirmed the transfer of 11 Ukrainian prisoners of war, but did not give any details.
