The politician urged city residents to be responsible for water consumption and, if possible, save it.
The Chairman of the Defense Council of Krivoy Rog Alexander Vilkul said that the city began to feel the lack of water and its reserves remained for a month and a half. He revealed this on Thursday, June 8, in his briefing.
He emphasized that this is an optimistic forecast, subject to economical water consumption.
“Today at 03.20 am, the level in the Kakhovka reservoir fell below our water intake. And now it is below the level of 12.5 meters, at a speed of 16.8 meters. For us, this means that the water of Kakhovka has stopped flowing into our Southern reservoir. At the very end The Yuzhny reservoir, thanks to the work carried out in advance, has a reserve for economical consumption – I emphasize that there is economical consumption – for 1.5 month,” he said.
Vilkul said that the city authorities have already started implementing some important projects that should provide water to the citizens.
“We will implement three projects at the same time. One – with the Agency for Infrastructure Rehabilitation and Development. Two – of the city. The responsibility is too great, the time is too little,” he said.
Vilkul added that in Krivoy Rog, the Krivbassvodokanal is running almost as usual, the water quality is controlled by specialists.
Recall that on June 6, the Russian invaders blew up the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. The destruction caused widespread flooding, as well as a humanitarian and environmental disaster.
Ukraine opened a case under the ecocide article due to the explosion of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.
