At least 40 schoolgirls have been poisoned by water in the west of the country. What exactly leads to water toxicity is still unknown.
In Farah province in western Afghanistan, at least 40 students at a primary religious school were poisoned by drinking water. This was reported on Wednesday, June 7, by Hasht-e Subh, citing local sources.
According to them, the incident took place at a girls’ school in the district of Qala-i-Kah, located in the western part of the province. Some of the victims required hospitalization, details of their condition were not provided. What exactly leads to water toxicity is still unknown.
Representatives of the local administration, appointed by the Taliban who seized power in Afghanistan, did not comment on the incident.
This incident is not the first case of mass poisoning of schoolgirls in Afghanistan. A few days earlier, it was reported that around 60 Afghan girls were hospitalized after being poisoned at a school in northern Afghanistan.
It will be recalled that in some provinces of Iran, cases of mass poisoning of schoolgirls are being investigated, which began to be recorded in November last year.
