Some countries have confirmed that they will provide Ukraine with their F-16 fighter jets. The names of the countries are kept secret, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said.
We had a very important meeting in Moldova, where I had one closed meeting with a certain number of countries that confirmed exactly that they would give us F-16s. To do this, we need a joint agreement with the United States. I cannot reveal the details,” the president said at a briefing on June 6.
He added that he had received an understanding from some European partners that the number of F-16s would be powerful.
I have already received an understanding of quantity from some partners. It is powerful. When he received this data, he had a day of happiness. There was a powerful proposal,” Zelensky said.
At the same time, according to him, the F-16 needs infrastructure under construction.
There is no infrastructure yet, it will be built and prepared. There is no point in preparing it until there is an agreement (official – ed.) that we will have the appropriate aircraft, the president summed up.
Zelensky noted that for this it is important that the coalition on aircraft become an “agreement on paper” within the Rammstein format or on other platforms.
“Military” recalls that American F-16 fighters are demanding on the quality of the runway.
F-16s should help the Ukrainian Air Force be more efficient, including the fact that spare parts and materials for maintaining these aircraft are much more affordable than spare parts for Soviet MiG-29s. At the same time, the F-16 and other fourth-generation Western fighters have significant potential to influence the dynamics of combat operations.
Recall, earlier it was reported that the Netherlands is considering the possibility of providing Ukraine with F-16 fighters, but has not yet made a final decision.
