The destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station by the Russians caused significant damage to Ukrainian agriculture.
The destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station will lead to the fact that the fields in the south of Ukraine may become a desert next year. This was announced on Tuesday, June 6, at the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
According to experts, due to the terrorist attack on the hydroelectric power station of the Kherson region, about 10 thousand hectares of agricultural land on the right bank and several times more on the left bank of the region, which is now under work, will be flooded.
“Detailed information will be known in the coming days after the analysis of information and images on the extent of the flood,” the ministry said.
In addition, due to the Russian terrorist attack, the water supply of 31 irrigation systems for the fields of three regions will be stopped.
“The explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP caused a water shortage in three regions. 94% of irrigation systems in Kherson, 74% in Zaporozhye and 30% in Dnipropetrovsk regions were left without water sources. In 2021, the these systems provided irrigation for 584 thousand hectares. We collected about 4 million tons of grain and oilseeds, worth about $1.5 billion,” the ministry said.
The ministry emphasized that the negative consequences of the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station will also be felt by the fish industry. They noted that there was already information about fish deaths.
“Another problem is the entry and death of freshwater fish and other biological resources in the salty waters of the Black Sea. In turn, the Black Sea fauna can also die from the massive influx of fresh water,” explained the ministry.
According to preliminary estimates of the Ministry, due to the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP, the damage to the fishing industry from the death of adults alone may reach 95,000 tons, or about 4 billion UAH. and the damage from the death of all biological resources will reach 10.5 billion Hryvnia.
The department noted that the negative consequences of the crash will be felt by adjacent territories for several years in a row.
The ministry also clarified that all data are provided only according to preliminary estimates, and final conclusions can only be made when the water level stabilizes.
Recall that the Cabinet of Ministers created a special commission that will deal with the elimination of the consequences of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.
As reported, 1335 houses were flooded in the right bank of the Kherson region as a result of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station by the Russians. On the left bank, Korsunka and Dnepryan were completely flooded, Sandy, Staraya Zburyevka, Cossack Camps, Kardashinka, Krynki, Naked Pier and Oleshki were partially flooded.
