The Russian military deliberately blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. In the morning, civilians were evacuated from the region.
Russia intended to destroy the Kakhovka reservoir, which is critical, in particular, for supplying water to Crimea. And this indicates that the invaders have already realized that they have to flee from Crimea. This was announced on Tuesday, June 6, by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in a video message.
“By blowing up the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, the Russians have already understood that they have to flee Crimea. However, this will not save them from paying for what they have done,” he said.
The President emphasized that the disaster at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, created by Russian terrorists, will not stop Ukraine and Ukrainians.
“We will liberate all our lands. And every Russian terrorist attack only increases the amount of reparations that Russia will pay for the crimes committed, and not the chances of the invaders to stay in our land,” Zelensky said.
He emphasized that the state at all levels is doing everything to save people and provide drinking water to those who received it from the Kakhovka reservoir.
“Krivoy Rog and the entire Dnepropetrovsk region, cities and villages of the Kherson region, Mykolaiv region, Zaporozhye – no matter how difficult it is, they must help people,” added the president.
According to him, the Attorney General has applied to the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to give international justice to the investigation into the dam explosion.
“The whole world will know about this Russian war crime, the crime of ecocide. This deliberate destruction of dams and other hydroelectric facilities by the Russian invaders is an environmental bomb of mass destruction. For the sake of our own safety, the world must now show that Russia cannot escape such fear. And I am grateful to all the leaders and states, all the people and international organizations that have supported Ukraine and are ready to help our people, in our de-occupation measures.”
Recall that the Cabinet of Ministers created a special commission that will deal with the elimination of the consequences of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.
As reported, 1335 houses were flooded in the right bank of the Kherson region as a result of the explosion of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station by the Russians. On the left bank, Korsunka and Dnepryan were completely flooded, Sandy, Staraya Zburyevka, Cossack Camps, Kardashinka, Krynki, Naked Pier and Oleshki were partially flooded.
