The head of state announced this on June 6 during a press conference in Kyiv.
We understood these risks, everyone was prepared, rescuers, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, local administrations. The situation is very difficult, there is pollution that will be fought, flood from 35 to 80 settlements. There are already and will be big problems with drinking water even where it is not flooded. We reported to the International Criminal Court – this is ecocide. I would like the reaction of the countries of Asia and Latin America. We will raise this issue in the international arena,” Zelensky said.
He also spoke specifically about the reaction of the world to the undermining of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station.
Those who give weapons, they give them, no matter what. Who sees only their own interests. Our ecological catastrophe is purely our catastrophe, this is what happens in life. When you find a common interest, everything works out. Russia is a common enemy for us and our neighbors. We live in such a world, we must ourselves be strong and put pressure on others. I understand that we want a tougher reaction from the world, but I am not pessimistic.
Recall, according to local residents, there was only one explosion, and then Kakhovskaya HPP “fell like a house of cards.” Ukrhydroenergo reported that the dam and engine room of the hydroelectric power station were blown up from the inside, so it would be impossible to restore the station.
The interlocutor of the UP in the National Security and Defense Council said that the Russians blew up an old explosive tab, about which Zelensky had warned back in the fall of last year.
