Seven Russians took part in organizing several thousand anti-government protests in Moldova.

The US Treasury Department announced sanctions against seven people linked to Russian intelligence and a legal entity involved in Moscow’s efforts to destabilize the situation in Moldova. These Russians are part of a Russian-linked global information operation directed against Ukraine, as well as its neighbors and partners: Moldova, the Balkan countries, the EU, the UK and the US. It is reported European reality on Monday, June 5th.

Seven authorized Russians were involved in organizing several thousand anti-government protests in Moldova initiated by fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor, who was blacklisted by the US in October 2022. They were involved in a plan to seize the government building of Moldovan and carry out a coup in the country.

The organizer of the group, which was supposed to inspire a coup d’état in Moldova, was a Russian Konstantin Sapozhnikov.

Some of the participants played specific roles:

  • Yuri Makolov – is engaged in logistics;

  • Gleb Khloponin – collected data on the protection of government buildings;

  • Svetlana Boyko – responsible for finance;

  • Aleksey Losev – conducted reconnaissance (his company, which produces ceramic lanterns, is also included in the “black list”);

  • Vasily Gromovikov – help with money;

  • Anna Travnikova – together with Boyko promoted pro-Russian narratives.

It will be remembered that the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell assured that the situation in unrecognized Transnistria will not prevent Moldova from joining the European Union.
