The Belgian government turned to Ukraine for clarification due to information that armed anti-Putin groups used Belgian-made weapons to attack the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation, according to Het Laatste Nieuws.
According to a “reliable media source”, the Belgian defense and foreign ministers Ludivine Dedonder and Haja Labib will contact the Ukrainian authorities as soon as possible to get an explanation of the situation.
“These deliveries are intended for the Ukrainian armed forces to protect their territory and population from Russian aggression. This is clearly mentioned in the documents accompanying each delivery,” the source was quoted as saying by HLN.
“Thus, these weapons are not intended for isolated groups with internal Russian interests,” he added.
On the eve of The Washington Post, citing intelligence data, it was reported that soldiers of the Russian Volunteer Corps and the Legion are fighting on the side of Ukraine Freedom of Russia that attacked the Belgorod region at the end of May used at least four tactical vehicles previously transferred to Ukraine by Western states.
These include armored vehicles with improved mine protection of the MRAP class, as well as rifles made in the Czech Republic and Belgium, and at least one AT-4 anti-tank grenade launcher, which is often used of the US and Western militaries.
The United States has repeatedly stressed that it does not approve the use of its weapons for military operations outside Ukraine. Ukrainian intelligence said the Russian fighters had Western equipment as a trophy after fighting Russian troops.
Recall that on May 22, the fighters of the so-called Russian Volunteer Corps and the Legion Freedom of Russia first invaded the Belgorod region of Russia. Since then, these organizations have made several more incursions into Russian territory.
