According to CNN, the Chinese Foreign Ministry denied The Wall Street Journal’s claim that Chinese envoy Li Hui, during a European tour, allegedly put forward tough demands to European officials: Russia must retain the occupied territories as a result of a peaceful settlement of the war in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Foreign Minister has publicly stated that he has established contacts with all parties and none of them indicated that Special Representative Li Hui made the statements reported by the Wall Street Journal, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said.
Earlier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba objected that the Chinese Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui, during a trip to Europe, allegedly called for Russia to retain the right to the territories of Ukraine occupied by it. Kuleba said that he talked with European colleagues – they did not confirm that Hui had voiced such demands.
Last week, The Wall Street Journal, citing its own sources, reported that Hui, during his visits, called on governments to achieve an immediate cessation of hostilities with Russia maintaining control over the Ukrainian territories it occupies.
