The last time the water was this color was in 1968. Then the artist painted the water of the Grand Canal green to raise awareness of environmental issues.

On Sunday, May 28, the water in Venice’s central canal around the famous Rialto Bridge turned fluorescent green. The BBC writes about it.

Local authorities took water samples. An immediate investigation has been launched into the matter.

Early version – paint contamination. It is believed that the reason for this color of water is the protests of environmental activists.

Local police are currently reviewing security cameras.

Meanwhile, social media users believe it looks like a 1968 stunt by Argentine artist Nicolás García Uribura to paint the water of the Grand Canal green to raise awareness of environmental issues.

We remind you, earlier in Venice the canals dried up.
