In an evening address to the people of Ukraine on Sunday, May 28, President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked all those who protected the country during the night of the kamikaze drone attack.
“Today, our state went through one of the largest Russian attacks by “shaheeds” – 54 drones at once. Almost all of them were shot down. Unfortunately, there were hits in the Zhytomyr region. But still, most of the destruction was prevented, most of the lives that these “shaheeds” could have taken were saved,” the appeal said.
Zelensky noted the particular cynicism of the Russians who attacked the capital with a large number of drones on Kyiv Day.
“During this terrorist attack, by volume, the strongest blows were specifically directed against the Kiev region. This is how Russia celebrates the Day of our ancient Kiev … Throughout its history, Kiev has seen various evils from the occupiers. It survived them all – it will survive the Rashists. None of them are here. Let’s move forward until we liberate all our lands in Ukraine,” Zelensky emphasized.
It will be remembered, at first it was reported that the Russian Federation released 54 “shaheda” in Ukraine on the night of May 28, while 52 of them were removed by Ukrainian defenders.
In the evening summary, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine clarified the information about the night attack: 58 out of 59 enemy UAVs were shot down.
