The test footage was published by Ukrainian tanker Andrei Nikonorov. The Leopard 2A6 was taken for testing, and the T-62MV was chosen as the target for it.
Completed training, personally examined by General Kovalchuk. We are moving to the east,” the military wrote.
The published footage shows the T-62MV with pierced armor. “Military” suggests that the Ukrainian Leopard 2A6 used a 120 mm DM-53 kinetic projectile.
The DM-53 was created in response to the need to increase the combat effectiveness of the Leopard 2 main battle tank. This projectile is designed and optimized specifically to overcome the dynamic protection of enemy armored vehicles. The DM-53 core is made of tungsten and heavy alloy WSM IV.
Ukrainian tankers could also use the DM-63 projectile. The new German DM-63 can be fired from any 120mm smoothbore tank gun. Rheinmetall has developed the world’s first inefficient tank ammunition that does not depend on temperature, DM 63 and DM 53 A1 (the latter is an upgraded version of DM 53).
This projectile is distinguished by its temperature-independent propulsion system, which maintains its internal ballistic performance at a constant level over a wide temperature range.
Recall that in March of this year, Portugal handed over to Ukraine three Leopard 2A6.
