Lula da Silva told Vladimir Putin that he will not visit him at the economic forum in St. Petersburg.
The President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva called the Russian leader Vladimir Putin and discussed with him the issues related to achieving peace in Ukraine. He reported it to Twitter on Friday, May 26th.
“I just spoke on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin … I confirmed Brazil’s readiness, along with India, Indonesia and China, to talk to both sides of the conflict to achieve peace,” he wrote.
Lula da Silva also said that he would not be able to go to Russia at Putin’s invitation to participate in St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, scheduled for June.
In this regard, the Kremlin confirmed that Putin had a “constructive and meaningful conversation” with the President of Brazil.
“The President of Russia gave the main assessments of the development of the situation around Ukraine, while confirming the openness of the Russian side to dialogue on the political and diplomatic path, which is still blocked by Kiev and the It’s a Western sponsor,” the message said.
The President of Brazil, as specified in the Kremlin, “outlined his view on possible mediation efforts to find ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.”
Lula da Silva also shared with Putin his impressions of participating in the recent G7 summit, attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
It will be remembered that earlier in May, Zelensky met with the special adviser of the President of Brazil on international issues, Celso Amorim. The diplomat explained in detail what the Ukrainian formula for peace is.
It was also reported that the President of Brazil condemned the Russian military invasion of Ukraine.
