In particular, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive AIM-9 air-to-air missiles from Canadian allies. Ottawa will give Kyiv 43 of these missiles from its own Air Force. This was stated by the Canadian Ministry of Defense following the regular meeting of the contact group on the defense of Ukraine in the Rammstein format.
The AIM-9 Sidewinder is a short-range guided missile with an infrared homing head. This missile has been in service with the US Air Force since the mid-2950s, but now modified versions of these munitions are in service with a number of countries. This missile is compatible with most modern fighters, including the F-16, F-15, and fifth generation fighters.
The Canadian Defense Ministry added that small arms and ammunition are now being delivered to Ukraine, the transfer of which was announced in April. Machine guns and assault rifles have already been handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and a million rounds of 5.56 mm caliber and 4,800 assault rifles will be delivered in the coming weeks.
Recall that Finland sent Ukraine military assistance in the amount of 109 million euros. The new package will include, among other things, ammunition and anti-aircraft weapons. Thus, Helsinki has already provided Kyiv with the 16th defense aid package.
