The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the circumstances of a traffic accident involving the chairman of one of the district courts of the Kyiv region, which happened at a checkpoint in Kyiv. The press service of the department reported this on May 26.
“According to preliminary information, on May 26, around midnight, a judge driving a car hit a soldier of the National Guard of Ukraine. As a result of an accident, the National Guardsman died on the spot from his injuries, ” said the SBI.
The judge is said to have been arrested. He refused to perform an examination of the state of intoxication in a health care institution.
“Procedural steps are being taken to forcibly obtain biological samples from the judge. The necessary forensic examinations have been assigned,” the Bureau said.
A pre-trial investigation is launched into a violation of traffic safety rules or the operation of transport by people in a state of alcohol, narcotics or other intoxication, if they caused the death of the victim (part 3 of article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The penalty of the article provides imprisonment for up to ten years.
