Earlier, the Russian authorities stated that “the border is locked”, and it is impossible to pass through all the established barriers. The governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, boasted that the authorities had spent 10 billion rubles. for the construction of a line of fortifications along the border of the Belgorod region from Ukraine. This is stated in a new report by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
The founder of the private military company Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, in the fall of 2022, also announced the construction of a fortification complex called the Wagner Line in the Belgorod region. Putin’s so-called chef directly criticized Russian bureaucrats for not supporting the construction of the line.
Military analysts believe that new calls for increased defense along the Russian-Ukrainian border are unlikely to have a significant effect. And all because the Russian military command incorrectly distributes the forces that are best suited to support active offensive operations, completing these fortifications.
The ISW also notes that the current defensive strongholds could not interfere with the raid of volunteers in the Belgorod region, which took place on May 22.
Recall that on May 22, fighters of the corps, together with representatives of the Legion “Freedom of Russia”, raided the Belgorod region. They made noise on the territory of Russia and were able to go deeper than 40 km. The Russian army and government were not ready for such a development of events.
