In Georgia, they decided to leave EU flags on the parliament building on the country’s Independence Day.
The government of Georgia this year decided to refuse to install European Union flags in the parliament building for the country’s Independence Day. This was reported by Novosti-Georgia.
So, on Georgia’s Independence Day on May 26, the large EU flag will not be visible on the Georgian Parliament building. The country’s government explained this through the traditional annual change in the holiday’s main slogan.
Last year, the May 26 message was the motto To Europe and the EU flag is one of the main elements. And this year the main slogan is For the sake of freedomso the city is decorated only with symbols of the national flag of Georgia.

This decision of the country’s leadership became the subject of discussion on social networks. Social media users linked the absence of the EU flag on Georgia’s Independence Day to a change in the government’s foreign policy.
The opposition parties announced the actions on 26 May. They called to gather with Georgian and EU flags at the monument in Rustaveli and organize a procession to the parliament. Residents of Tbilisi were called for a flash mob – to hang two flags: Georgia and the European Union from the balconies and windows of their apartments.
Let’s recall that earlier the Georgian government refused to coordinate the visit of President Salome Zurabishvili to Brussels.
