From the beginning of Russia’s massive aggression, the issue of renaming the streets in Ukraine has become extremely acute. The language ombudsman offered his options.
After the start of a massive war in Ukraine, they began to extensively rename the streets associated with the Russian Federation and Belarus. State Commissioner for Language Protection Taras Kremen has published on Facebook a recommended list of Ukrainian figures whose names can be used when changing the name.
“I am sure that this compiled list will be useful to everyone, including those abroad, who now want to continue the names of the builders-defenders of the Ukrainian language, culture, country among names of streets, libraries or squares, “it wrote. Kremen.
The list of 100 prominent Ukrainians was compiled in collaboration with experts from the National Academy of Sciences.
In particular, it includes: Oles Gonchar, Ivan Dziuba, Ivan Drach, Dmitry Kremen, Lev Lukyanenko, Evgeniy Sverstiuk, Vasily Simonenko, Vasily Stus, Vyacheslav Chornovil, Petr Yatsyk.
The full list can be found at the link.
The list does not take into account those numbers whose names are already common in geographical names.
Clearly the initiative should come from the residents of the communities where the geographical names and place names will be changed. The task of local authorities is to listen to the community, academic institutions, leading universities, ”Kremen wrote.
Recall that the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine has launched the Tell the Truth platform to collect and process information about Russian human rights violations.
