The Russian embassy in Oslo condemned the aircraft carrier’s visit to Norway, calling such a show of force “unreasonable and harmful.”
In Oslo (Norway) on Wednesday, May 24, the world’s largest aircraft carrier arrived Gerald R. Ford (USS Gerald R. Ford) to participate in NATO exercises. This was reported by Reuters.
It is known that the ship and its crew will conduct exercises with the Norwegian armed forces off the coast of the country in the coming days.
According to Jonny Carlsen, spokesman for the Norwegian Joint Headquarters of the Armed Forces Operational Command Center, this visit is an important sign of close bilateral relations between the US and Norway and evidence of the reliability of joint defense and deterrence.
According to Norwegian media, the aircraft carrier will sail north of the Arctic Circle.
The Russian Embassy in Oslo condemned the aircraft carrier’s visit to Norway.
“In the polar zone of the Arctic, the issues that require military intervention or outside interference have not been resolved. Based on the fact that Oslo recognizes that Russia does not pose a direct military threat to Norway, such a game of muscle seems irrational and harmful,” said the embassy.
Norway borders Russia in the Arctic and became Europe’s biggest gas supplier last year after Russia cut off gas flows. The Norwegian military and NATO allies have been patrolling offshore oil and gas platforms since the fall following explosions at Nord Stream pipelines in the Baltic Sea.
Earlier, the media wrote that the Russian Federation increased the number of bombers near Finland and Norway.
It will be remembered that in the north of Europe from May 29 to June 9, the military exercises ACE 2023 will be held in which 14 countries will participate.
