Mikhail Konopelnyuk said that after a qualitative survey, this area will be smaller.
The military actions of the aggressor country Russia caused the examination for explosive objects to require an area of 174 thousand square kilometers – a third of the territory of Ukraine. This was said by the senior officer of the main headquarters of the Administration of the State Special Transport Service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (MOU), Mykhailo Konopelnyuk in a briefing.
“(Currently – ed.) 174,000 square kilometers need to be surveyed. Of which 14,000 are sea areas. This is almost a third of our state,” he said.
According to him, after a qualitative survey, this area will be further reduced. Therefore, it is still difficult to predict how long it will take for complete clearance.
Konopelnyuk added that when mining the territory, sappers are faced with the fact that each mine or object can be a “surprise.”
He noted that the longer the territory was under occupation, the more explosive objects were encountered.
The representative of the Ministry of Defense also said that about 30 specialists were trained abroad.
Remember that the invaders created a “trap” for themselves in the Kherson region: the Russian invaders artificially raised the water level of the Kakhovka reservoir, which flooded the mined areas.
In addition, the military of the Russian Federation expanded mining near Energodar.
