Internet providers in Russia have begun receiving notifications from the digital giant about the termination of contracts for service on the part of their servers.
Google has notified several Russian telecommunications service providers of the termination of contracts for the maintenance of Google Global Cache servers. The digital giant will no longer serve companies subject to EU and US sanctions, RBC reports.
We’re talking about disconnections from Google Global Cache servers, which are used to reduce load on backbone networks and increase the speed of access to Google services, especially YouTube.
Several companies have already received notices of termination of contracts, including Orenburg -based Radio Communications provider operating under the Focus Life brand. Raiden Unlimited Company (the Irish subsidiary of Google) sent a letter to stop the servers there, explaining the decision by “changes in legal practice.”
A similar message was received by provider MIPT Telecom. A company representative said it could be due to the fact that the institute is on the list of sanctions.
At the same time, MTS and Rostelecom said they had not observed the outages. And representatives of VimpelCom, which includes the Beeline brand, as well as T2 RTK Holding (Tele2) and R-Telecom Holding declined to comment.
Let us recall, earlier it was reported that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov was urged to control the Internet, otherwise “the consequences could be, without exaggeration, catastrophic.” But in the United States, they believe that Russia should have access to the Internet so that the country’s inhabitants can receive factual information, so they urge not to disconnect the Russian Federation from the network.
