Discussions on providing Ukraine with security guarantees continue in NATO today. The agreement could be signed in July.
NATO is considering the possibility of signing an Agreement on Security Guarantees for Ukraine, following the example of the Israeli model, which was in July of this year, following the results of the NATO summit in Vilnius. Andrzej Duda, President of Poland, spoke about this in an interview with the WSJ.
“Biden, who visited Poland in February, discussed the concept of the Israeli model. It is now gaining popularity among Western allies as part of the agenda of the NATO summit to be held in Vilnius in July,” said the head of Poland.
A security agreement based on a proposal known as the Kiev Security Treaty is expected to be signed after the NATO summit. According to Duda, the agreement will prioritize the transfer of weapons and advanced technology to Ukraine.
At the same time, according to Western officials familiar with the negotiations, this agreement will be linked to the process of Ukraine’s development towards future NATO membership, but will not allow the North Atlantic Treaty Organization to be de facto involved in a conflict with Russia.
Duda stressed that discussions on this issue are ongoing at the moment.
Recall that the media learned about possible security guarantees for Ukraine. The security model to be offered in Ukraine is similar to the one currently applied in Israel, the sources said.
