Salome Zurabishvili will boycott Georgian Airways for resuming flights to the Russian Federation, and called on the country’s citizens to do the same.
The wedding of family members of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will not take place in Georgia. This was said by Georgian President Salome Zourabishvili in an emergency briefing, according to the local edition of News Georgia on Saturday, May 20.
“Regarding today’s event … I finally received assurances from the Minister of Internal Affairs that the family, the people who will pay for the second half of the wedding today, have left, and therefore the wedding will not take place . This is a victory for society,” Zurabishvili said.
He called the situation unacceptable when officials and bodies responsible for the country’s security say they have no information about whether there are people on the territory of Georgia who are on the sanctions list of partner countries.
Salome Zurabishvili also announced that she would boycott Georgian Airways for resuming flights to the Russian Federation, and called on the country’s citizens to do the same.
According to the president, Georgian Airways is a company that “takes full advantage of the situation to get rich.”
Zurabishvili added that he would boycott the airline, “which is ready to do anything for money and everyone has seen and heard the happy statements of its leadership.”
Earlier on Saturday, it became known that Ekaterina Vinokurova (Lavrova), together with her husband Alexander, came to her brother’s wedding. The wedding ceremony took place in Tbilisi, and on Saturday night festivities and a banquet were planned in Kakheti.
The Kvareli Lake Resort administration denied that Lavrov’s son was staying at the hotel, but an employee who identified himself as a flower delivery courier confirmed this to a journalist.
In the morning, a protest action began near the hotel, there were clashes between the police and special forces among the participants of the action. The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed the detention of 16 people.
Remember, on May 10, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree allowing Georgian citizens to visit Russia without issuing a visa for up to 90 days. In addition, he lifted the ban on flights by Russian airlines and the sale of tours to Georgia.
On May 19, the first direct Moscow-Tbilisi flight in four years landed at the Georgian Shota Rustaveli airport. He was met with protest. And President Zurabishvili published a post on Twitter with the hashtag “No flights from Russia.”
