Today, for NATO members, defense spending at two percent is no longer a future goal, but an absolute minimum.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO member countries should increase defense spending to a minimum of 2% of GDP, Spiegel reports.
Stoltenberg expressed the hope that allies who have not yet reached this level will do so “soon.”
“Two percent is no longer a future goal, but an absolute minimum that everyone must achieve – not in a decade, but soon,” Stoltenberg said.
He also said that NATO defense ministers will discuss in June the possible transfer of Western fighters to Ukraine.
