Ankara received a guarantee from Moscow for the unhindered exit of Turkish ships from the Ukrainian ports of Nikolaev and Olvia.
Ukraine, Turkey, the UN and Russia have agreed to extend the grain agreement for another two months. This was announced by Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Telegram on Wednesday, May 17.
“Thanks to the efforts of our country, the support of our Russian friends and the contribution of our Ukrainian friends, it was decided to extend the agreement on the Black Sea Grain Corridor for another two months,” he said.
Erdogan assured that Turkey will continue its efforts to fulfill all the conditions of the grain agreement and extend it in the next period. He also said that he received guarantees from the Russian side for the unhindered exit of Turkish ships from the Ukrainian ports of Nikolaev and Olvia.
“Our Russian friends said that they will not interfere with the exit of our ships from the ports of Nikolaev and Olvia. And we thank them for this,” the Turkish president added.
Erdogan thanked the presidents of Ukraine and the Russian Federation, as well as the UN Secretary General for constructive cooperation.
Earlier on Wednesday, the last ship under the grain deal left Ukraine. According to Moscow, the agreement should end on Thursday, May 18.
As you know, the future of the grain deal is in doubt due to the position of Russia, which has put forward a whole list of demands.
