Vsevolod Knyazev’s lawyer insisted in court that law enforcement officers had no right to detain his client without the High Council of Justice’s permission.
The High Anti-Corruption Court (VAKS) refused to satisfy the complaint of the defense of the former President of the Supreme Court Vsevolod Knyazev on his detention before the permission of the High Council of Justice (HJC) was granted. The corresponding decision was read by investigative judge Oleg Fedorov on Wednesday, May 17.
“The court decided: to dismiss the complaint about the detention of Knyazev Vsevolod Sergeyevich. The decision is not subject to appeal,” he read the operative part of the decision and added that the full text of the decision will be made public on May 19 .
Meanwhile, Knyazev’s lawyer insisted to the court that law enforcement officials had no right to detain his client without the permission of the SCJ, and asked for his satisfaction. In this regard, the prosecutor asked the court to reject this petition.
Earlier on Wednesday, it was learned that SAPO prosecutors prepared a submission to the High Council of Justice granting permission to keep Knyazev in custody. GSP will consider this submission on 18 May.
It will be recalled that on May 15, law enforcers exposed a corruption scheme involving the leadership of the Supreme Court. In particular, the head of the court, Vsevolod Knyazev, was caught taking a bribe of $2.7 million. We are talking about money transferred by people acting on the part of businessman Konstantin Zhevago.
The Supreme Court removed Knyazev from his post. NABU revealed the suspicion against him.
