Former Energy Minister Igor Nasalik was charged with abuse of office.
Law enforcement officers replaced the former Minister of Energy and Coal Industry, Igor Nasalik, on suspicion of abuse of office. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General on Wednesday, May 17.
Suspicion was also reported to the former head of the oil and gas department of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry. The defendants were charged with abuse of office. Under this article, the maximum penalty is six years in prison.
According to the investigation, officials made changes to contracts for the operation of gas distribution systems and their components. Thus, out of 37 contracts concluded with gas distribution system operators, 33 were signed with conflict protocols, the content of which does not correspond to the objectives of the contractual relationship.
Through the proxy of the suspects, unprofitable agreements for the state were concluded with the structures of a well-known businessman. Entrepreneurs are artificially “written off” funds for the exploitation of state property.
Due to their actions, from May 2017 to December 2020, the budget lost 1.55 billion hryvnias in revenues.
Recall that in February, law enforcement officials informed Nasalik about the suspicion of official negligence, which led to budget losses of almost UAH 1.5 billion in favor of one of the gas oligarchs.
