In Russia, Azov servicemen are called “Nazi criminals” who must be brought to justice.
Russia does not discuss in Ukraine the issue of exchange of prisoners, because it is premature. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko, Interfax reports on Wednesday, May 25.
“We will consider all things after those who surrendered are appropriately convicted, a sentence is passed, then there might be some other steps. Before that, all talks about the exchange were premature,” Rudenko said.
So he answered the question of whether Russia would consider the possibility of exchanging Russian military Vadim Shishimarin, who was convicted in Ukraine. He received a life sentence for the murder of a civilian in the Sumy region.
Recall that the last defenders of Azovstal surrendered in Mariupol last week. According to Russian media, 2439 people left the business blocked by the occupiers.
In turn, the State Duma of the Russian Federation intends to ban the exchange of Azov fighters. Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin declared the Azov soldiers “Nazi criminals” who must face trial.
