For the strike, apparently, the Kinzhal aeroballistic missile, which in Russia stubbornly continues to be called “hypersonic”, was used.
The Russian military allegedly “destroyed” the American anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) Patriot in Kyiv. This statement was made by the spokesman of the Russian Defense Ministry, Lieutenant-General Igor Konashenkov, at a briefing on Tuesday, May 16.
According to him, the Kinzhal aeroballistic missile, which Russia continues to call “hypersonic” was used for the strike.
“A high-precision strike of a” hypersonic “Dagger” missile system in the city of Kyiv hit a US-made Patriot anti-aircraft missile system,” Konashenkov said.
This is not the first time that Russia has used fakes about the supposed destruction of modern Western military equipment transferred to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. For example, in January 2023, Russia announced the “destruction” of about 60 HIMARS installations, although Ukraine received no more than 20 units, as well as some similar M270 and MARS system.
Recall that on the night of May 16, Russia attacked Ukraine with missiles and drones. Air defense forces shot down all 27 indirect fire targets, including six Kinzhal missiles.
