German politicians briefly crossed paths at the Charlemagne International Prize ceremony.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, during a visit to Germany, on Sunday, May 14, met for the first time with the leader of the Belarusian opposition in exile, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya. However, the meeting was very short, European Truth reports.
It was noted that the politicians briefly crossed paths at the Charlemagne International Prize ceremony in 2023.
The Charlemagne Prize, awarded for the contribution to the unification of Europe, was awarded this year to the President and people of Ukraine. The ceremony was attended by many European politicians.
Svetlana Tikhanovskaya on her Twitter posted a video from the sidelines of how she and Zelensky briefly shook hands and congratulated each other. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, and European Parliament President Robert Metsola stood nearby.
The publication notes that, as far as is known, this is the first time Zelensky and Tikhanovskaya have crossed paths at a public event.

It will be remembered that in 2020 Tikhanovskaya took part in the presidential election in Belarus after the CEC disallowed her husband.
Sergei Tikhanovsky was detained and sentenced to 18 years in prison. He was found guilty of inciting violence against the authorities and preparing riots in the country. And in March 2023, Tikhanovskaya was sentenced to 15 years in prison in absentia.
