The American leader called for a gun lobby challenge after a school shooting that killed 18 children and three adults.
U.S. President Joe Biden on Tuesday, May 24, spoke to the American nation, due to the shooting of a dozen and a half children at an elementary school in Texas. The address was broadcast live from the White House.
“When I became president, I hoped I would never have to do it again,” the U.S. president began his speech to Americans.
So, he recalled a similar incident that occurred in 2012, when Vice President Biden was appointed to lead the government’s response to the mass shooting at Sandy Cook School in Newtown.
The American leader stressed that Tuesday’s attack by a gunman on an elementary school was “another massacre.” At least 21 people, including 18 children and three adults, died as a result of an 18-year-old teenager using firearms at school.
According to investigators, the motive of the attacker is unknown. Before arriving at school, he shot his grandmother, who was rushed to the hospital by air. After that, he got to school aboard his pickup truck, where he had an accident, driving into a ditch.
From there, the attacker went to the educational institution. As law enforcement officers were stationed, he was wearing a bulletproof vest, carrying a pistol, rifle and backpack. Attempts by the guards to prevent him from leaving the building were unsuccessful. The assailant entered inside, where he fired indiscriminately in several classrooms. He was later arrested by the police.
In this regard, US President Joe Biden emphasized in his speech that the loss of a child is the loss of a piece of the soul. “As a nation, we need to ask ourselves, when, for God’s sake, will we rise up against the gun lobby? When, for God’s sake, will we do what we all know needs to be done?” stressed by the President.
Former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama also made speeches condemning the U.S. gun lobby’s drive to keep the country’s near-run sales of shooting supplies.
Earlier it was reported that 14 children and one adult were killed, and the shooter was removed by police.
