Prague is ready to move more Soviet or Russian-made helicopters to Ukraine, but the US wants to speed up the delivery of the promised Western helicopters.
Czech authorities handed over Soviet-made Mi-24 attack helicopters to Ukraine. Their exact numbers are kept secret. The helicopters are already in Ukraine, according to the Wall Street Journal.
It was noted that the delivery of these machines took place in “recent weeks”.
According to The Military Balance for 2021, the Czech Republic has only 7 Mi-24D helicopters.
At the same time, it was reported that the Czech Republic is ready to transfer more Soviet or Russian-made helicopters to Ukraine. The Czech armed forces also have 16 Mi-171Sh helicopters, 10 Mi-35P helicopters, five Mi-17s and four Mi-8s. But Prague wants the US to speed up the delivery of the promised UH-1Y Venom and AH-1Z Viper helicopters.
Earlier, the media reported that three Mi-17 helicopters had been delivered to Ukraine from the United States. It is the first of 11 Mi-8 and Mi-17 helicopters to be delivered under the $ 800 million U.S. military aid package.
Recall, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Christina Quinn said that Western allies, which have Soviet -style military aircraft at their disposal, could supply them to Ukraine under bilateral contracts. The US does not restrict them to such supplies.
