Canadian traders have halted production by at least 280,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Wildfires in the Canadian province of Alberta have caused local energy producers to halt production of at least 280,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. Such volumes account for more than 3% of Canadian production. Reuters reported this on Tuesday, May 9.

Canada is the fourth largest oil producer in the world. About 80% of the country’s oil comes from Alberta.

Canada’s daily natural gas exports to the US fell to 6.7 billion cubic meters on Sunday, the lowest level since April 2021, according to data provider Refinitiv. The number of displaced people reached 30 thousand.

As of Monday afternoon, 98 wildfires were still active, with nearly 30 classified as out of control.

More than 700 firefighters have been called to extinguish the forest, with another 1,000 invited from other provinces, and should arrive in Alberta next week.

Alberta Premier Daniel Smith announced an emergency payment of 1,250 Canadian dollars ($935) for residents in the province forced to evacuate for seven or more days.

As already reported, the death toll from large fires in the Kurgan region of the Russian Federation reached seven people.

We add that on May 7, large natural fires broke out in several communities of this region, and a state of emergency was introduced.
