The new package of sanctions is aimed at strengthening the effectiveness of previous restrictions, and also contains the issue of exports to Russia.
The European Commission has completed the development of the 11 package of sanctions against Russia and has sent it to EU member states for consideration. This is what EC Speaker Eric Mamer said in a briefing in Brussels on Monday, May 8.
“I can confirm that the proposals of the European Commission on the 11th package of sanctions have been submitted to the EU member states. This happened on Friday. But I will not talk about this package in detail,” said Mamer.
He clarified that the first discussion of a new package of sanctions is expected at a meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (Coreper) of the EU on May 10.
“This package focuses on addressing issues such as the implementation of sanctions, their effectiveness and prevention of evasion of the implemented sanctions. The package contains questions about exporting to Russia. We want to make sure that Russia does not import from any other countries,” added Eric Mamer.
The media earlier reported that the EU intends to propose a ban on the transit of many goods through Russia in the 11th package of sanctions. Ukraine’s other allies are also preparing sanctions packages.
It is believed that the EU will have time to introduce 11 packages of sanctions before the end of May.
